I have long considered the creative impulse to be a visit-a thing of grace perhaps. Not commanded, owned, so much as awaited, prepared for. A thing, also, of mystery.

queen anne's lace in late July

queen anne's lace is in full bloom right now
these photos were taken locally
over a period of several days
the colors of the background bokeh
come from st john's wort and vetch

some flowers start with pink edges
some have a red dot in the center
all have bees and large black ants

the plant holding up this five inch blossom
is almost as tall as I am

the late summer landscape
I am currently using as my

two sky watchers

a couple of nights ago
I was out on the deck
trying out one of the
scene settings on my
Nikon D7200 called
dusk/dawn

as I was working with my camera,
I noticed a robin standing at the peak of the roof
she seemed to be enjoying the night sky as much as I was
my husband and I had seen
her there before at sunset
that night,
she was giving out a very high pitched call
every few minutes
it does make me wonder if
birds and animals relate to
beauty the same way we do
what do you think?

a memory- a summer afternoon

I remember this afternoon-
the light was already slanted,
the shadows in the woods were dark
as the doe made her way through
the tall grass without noticing me
I was crouched down picking blueberries
in the patch right behind my garden
as usual, my camera was close by
the birch tree is long gone,
it came down in an ice storm
the hayfield is gone, too
houses there now
all that is left of this scene
is my memory,
and this small photo

sharp shinned hawk

a quick shot of a
sharp shinned hawk
I think of Icarus
not flying, but shooting
too near the sun
