I have long considered the creative impulse to be a visit-a thing of grace perhaps. Not commanded, owned, so much as awaited, prepared for. A thing, also, of mystery.

  1. Delicate and not wilting in the heat! Is this Angelica? Stay cool. We were in the 30's last evening. I have a fire going today.

    1. No, the white flowered plant is Queen's Anne's Lace. It is as tall as Angelia, though. We are having such a strange summer. The grass is brown, but the Goldenrod, QAL, and the thistles are all at least six feet tall.
Your weather sounds delightful. It is supposed to be 94º and humid here today.

    1. August has always been my least favorite month. Thank goodness, the beauty of the wildflowers make up for the weather.

  3. Ah, your photo of Queen Anne's Lace is just what I haven't been able to capture... so beautiful! They are still blooming along my neighborhood path, but now the fennel catches the eye -- and the nose! -- as it grows tall and its flowers open....

I saw some goldenrod in the mountains, but didn't know what it was until my daughter told me. At least, I didn't *remember* what it was. For all I know, I identified it last year and the memory went - whoosh - out of my mind.

    1. We have three or four kinds of goldenrod right near us. I always consider it a harbinger of autumn. I hate it when I have to look up the same plant time after time. I can remember looking it up just not what is was!

Thinking of you all in California

    1. Thanks,Tammie.
I have been looking at your latest photos. Montana still looks very summery, while our whole color palette has shifted toward fall.

    1. This is looking down into a dry pond. Usually there is chicory here as well. I missed seeing it this year.

    1. Can you believe that anyone would call something that lovely a weed? It is the weekend, and there is a crisp breeze blowing right now. Autumn is my favorite time of the year.
