I recently found a folder of my old poems.
This one was written on the 25th anniversary
of my life in Maine.

coming into Maine
dec, 24, 1994

hard to believe
it is twenty five years ago today
that I came into Maine for the first time
strange that a girl from Oklahoma
entered Maine from the north

total recall
even now
of senses overwhelmed
by the startling beauty and
difference of the place

roads winding through the villages of Quebec
the sound of spoken French
huge spired churches
bells ringing
mass on Christmas Eve

snow falling
border crossing
passing through evergreen forest
fragrance of balsam and pine
and woodsmoke

log cabins
and skidoos
the feel of snow under my feet
the sound of ice under the wheels

the taste of maple syrup
strong coffee
beans baked in a pot
red hotdogs
and Canadian Ale

a welcome from my new family
to a life of
snowbanks above the roof
and life below zero

HDR filter on clouds

I used a HDR filter on this photo.
What do you think?
I am not sure I like it.

Here is the original shot.
I airbrushed the crow in while editing.

solitary crow

I found this today while looking back through my photos on Flickr.
It is part of a crow poster I made quite a few years ago with iWorks.
Wherever I live, crows are always around me.
They are one of my favorite things to photograph.
My totem?
