a christmas bird

I always think of cardinals at Christmastime.
We don't have snow yet.
I made my own.

frost and fog

I started this wintery scene with a frosty window.
The fence and snow were painted,
Both the moose and moon were added from my own photos.
It is easy to paint brushes in the GIMP program.

santa claus

I got out a few Christmas decorations this week.
My oldest Santa turned 25 years old this season.
He will spend the holidays on the kitchen counter, with
the poinsettias and amaryllis.

photos from a bright November afternoon

The colors are changing to winter tones down around the pond.
Last year's cattails look like my hair on a bad day.
A few years ago, I watched chickadees ferry fluff back and forth
from a head like this to their nest for about half an hour.
I hope these stay upright until spring nest making time.

This vertical maple leaf caught my eye.
I was able to capture the stained glass effect
just before the wind carried it away.

calling all monarch butterflies

we have a plentiful crop of milkweed this year
the plants are doing their best to spread

I hope to see more butterflies next summer
this year, only three

autumn light

the golden glow of autumn
on
autumn vegetables

a note-
I bought the bowl at a mill store a few years ago.
This is what it looks like after a lot of sanding and wax.
It was a fun project!

fog and foliage

The good news is we finally have some color.
The bad news is that we have fog.
Actually though,
it is quite pretty.
This shot was taken on my afternoon walk.
The maple with the red leaves is almost bare.
What an odd fall we are having!

celebrating autumn

Don't you just love made things?
My husband and I just bought this wreath
for our front door.
Not only is it lovely and all natural,
it smells great.

fragment of a sundog

I love a wind tossed sky.
This is one of many photos I took one day last week
I did not see the sundog fragment when I took the shot.
My camera and lens did.

Did you know that cirrus clouds show up before nice weather?

a frosty morning

We had our first frost last night.
It was the first one we have had in September in a long while.

The backyard was quite frosty.
A few of the flowers in the front of the house got hit.
The pumpkin on the front steps did not.

A busy bee in Maine

Frost tonight in the mountains.
We still have a week or two of flowers
here in southern Maine.
The bees are making the most of it.

daisy fleabane

I like this small daisy-like flower.
You can tell it is part of the aster family just by looking.
Fleabane is soft to touch, unlike asters.
We have both white and purple plants
growing along our road.

rain on cedar

We had rain this morning.
The cedar deck looked like this.
I love textures.
This shot has two,
wood grain and the rain drop pattern.

rose of sharon

Rose of Sharon bushes remind me of my mom.
She had one with pink flowers when I was young.
When I took these photos yesterday, the sky was dark and cloudy.
I wasn't expecting the background to come out so well.
 I like it!
